portret Roeland Oud My name is Roeland Oud, I am 26 years old, living nearby Amsterdam.

At the moment I am working on a freelance basis. My skills consist of various disciplines in the domain of audio and sound design.

This includes studio recording and location recording, editing and mixing of recorded sound, and designing new sounds (or designing old sounds, of course depending on the situation).

In 2012 I graduated as Master of Arts in Creative Design for Digital Cultures at the Utrecht School of Arts. This academy gave me the right tools, knowledge and skills to work professionally in the field of sound design and audio post-production.

Also I have learned to work in multidisciplinary teams with numerous projects ranging from game designers, theatreproducers, audiovisual artists to animators and other filmmakers.

Check out the other pages at this website for more information about some of the projects I have done so far.

    • Back in 2010 I worked for a schoolproject at the Bagamoyo School of Arts. This is an artschool at the coast of Tanzania. As a group we worked there to coach and train future lecturers, we build up a new studio, did research to the local workfield and on the side we recorded several local artists.

Momentarily there is a revolutionary growth of modern technology in many developing countries. Apart from all the obvious positive effects, it had also some negative outcomes. A country like Tanzania has found diffculty with finding the right resources and knowledge for modern technological productions. This causes a cultural take-over by other, neighbour countries that are more advanced in the development of technology. The program I worked in attempts to preserve the ancient culture and at the same time let it embrace and take advantage of the already inevitable invasion of modern technology.
    • This program is initiated by the Utrecht School of Arts and started in 2007 under the name of Creative Design for Development. Focusing on music, sound, visual arts at the Bagamoyo School of Arts, the program is there to enable local teachers to work with modern technology productions and furthermore enable them to learn future students those skills and knowledge.

Yearly there are a different groups of students going to Tanzania, giving lessons and helping with setting up a new educational courses for the Bagamoyo School of Arts (also known as TaSUBa).

    • In the early summer of 2012, one of my graduation projects was the making of a documentary called "Back in the Day", produced by Laura Bijnsdorp. This documenary takes place in the island of St. Maarten, where several local elderly people tell the viewer about how life was when they were young and how they think the island has changed over the years.

In the project I did the sound recording on location and later on the sound editing and mixing. It was a great experience to travel to the island and visit its beautiful surroundings. Although we had a tight schedule we could luckily find some time for "experiencing" the beach and sea.

    • Besides the shooting of the documentary, we also gave workshops for the local youth. The theme of the workshops was "How to make a movie?". As a filmcrew we all gave in our own expertise some basics on how to make a movie. After that we divided the participants in groups and lended them a camera. At the last workshop everybody showed there short newmade movie and told us about what things they have learned doing it.
